Grade 12 Curriculum

English 12

In English 12, students learn about:​

Composition 12 - learn about the elements within the text that are not considered to be part of the paragraph body. For instance, typography (italics, bolds, and underlines), the font choice, the text size, text spacing, key words, titles, conclusions, style and format, captions, labels, and text boxes. Composition 12 is mostly analyzing the customizable details in English text (and of course, how the author organizes their ideas).

Creative writing 12 - students are expected to understand that creative writers take in the world within them, to get inspired by their environment. Creative writing greatly emphasizes taking risks in writing (stepping outside ones comfort zone) and gain new ideas.

English Studies 12 - learn analyzing literary, expository, persuasive, and narrative text. Students are expected to identify elements and literary devices in English text.

News Media 12 - students learn about their rights and their responsibility with their digital resources in a society that has developed technology. Students also learn about the reliability and biases of news media.​

Spoken Language 12 - this topic focuses on spoken genres of text, such as slam poetry, storytelling, debate, announcements, radio media, social media, recitation, and more. Spoken Language 12 is about improving oral skills (talking) and public speaking.

English First Peoples 12

In English First Peoples 10, students learn about First Peoples connection to their surroundings, for instance connection to land, generational traditions (passed down), self-identity, and more. This topic covers First People's culture and the history of how they developed to what they are today.
