Grade 10 Curriculum

English 10

In English 10, students learn about:​

Composition 10 - learn about forms and genres of text and the individual features of text (title, background information, body, conclusion, etc).

​

Creative writing 10 - learn to unpack text, break down the elements, and analyze them to find purpose and theme while making connections. 

​

Literary studies 10 - improve note-taking, free-writing, literary devices and elements, and find their own personalized process of writing. 

​

News Media 10 - learn about systems that transfer information to news medias like visual (photographs), audio (voice), and more. Students also

learn about the structure of text the author chooses to use, such as the way the author will organize the sections of text (chronological, order of importance, etc.)

​

Spoken Language 10 - speaking with face expressions, asking audience questions, summarizing, reflecting, revising.

English First Peoples 10

In English First Peoples 10, students learn about:

​

Literary studies 10 - learn about the common themes found in texts, Canadian's reconciliation, and official protocols of using First Peoples text.

​

News Media 10 - analyze text features and structures, learning about interactivity, which is the process of two or more people influencing each other with the ability to use digital devices for put information, and the function and intent of the text used.

​

Spoken Language 10 - explore the First Peoples oral traditions, such as stories and songs, and learn about the visual dances and other traditions the First Peoples had passed down from generation to generation.

Writing 10 - learn to include audience in writing, learn about the connection to First Peoples land, tradition, healing, family, friends, and the importance of elders that hold the aspects of wisdom. â€‹
