How to solve?

Algebra relies on BEDMAS, which is a format of the equations to solve in order.

BEDMAS stands for:

Brackets

Exponents

Divide

Multiply

Add

Subtract

About Mathematical Opportunities

Palmer has yearly math contests provided for the students to show their knowledge across the country. Students are encouraged to participate to improve their skills and competitive side. Each year, multiple students participate in order to improve their mathematical and competitive skills.

What is Math About?
Math is the study of equations, numbers (properties, variables, relations, measurement, problem solving). Palmer's math curriculum consists of  operations, equations, variables, financials, probability/statistics, and more. Math is about problem solving made up from numbers and calculations. On this website page, algebra will be our main focus.

Algebra is about solving for the unknown variable by using the numbers and other clues in the equation to help. Early algebraic equations can be seen as:
4+ x =6

x, in this case, would be 2.

More complicated algebra questions would be seen as:

Simplify: 8y – 2 – 3(y – 4)

The answer would be 5y + 10.

Algebra helps students improve their educational skills that are able to follow them into the professional world like logic, problem solving, patience, simplifying, and many more. Algebra in math is considered one of the most complicated yet logical type of equation. Algebra is built up on abstract concepts (solid concepts that cannot be broken down into detail with the 5 senses).

In simple words, algebra is mathematics built up on a branch of equations and variables that represent unknown numbers. Algebra can be found in real life such as grocery shopping (calculating how to budget and the costs of items). Sometimes algebra can even be found in vacations, such as thinking of possible routes during travelling.

Math at R.C. Palmer Secondary

At Palmer Secondary, Math is one of the main subjects that grade 9 students are required to take in order to graduate. Math can be found everywhere and anywhere in the real world, that's why Palmer is so enthusiastic about math. This subject isn't just about solving for x, it's about logic, problem solving, and identifying patterns and relationships.

What is pi?

Pi is 3.14159265358979... Pi can go on for hundreds and hundreds for numbers. Pi, in simple terms, is a circle's circumference's ratio to the circle's diameter that was invented by the British. It was founded in 1706 by a British mathematician, William Jones.
